Frequent Asked Questions

Q: How many Driving lessons do I need each week?

A: This really depends on you! Each lesson is a minimum of one full hour. However many pupils decide to have either 1 1/2 hour or 2 hour lessons so they can pass quickly.

Q: How many Driving lesson will I need?

A: Again this depends on you! However according to the Driving Standards Agency, (DSA) those who pass their driving test have had, on average, about 35 hours of professional training combined with 22 hours of private practice. Learners who combine professional instruction with private practice are also more successful on test.

Q: Why do some Driving Instructors have a Red badge and some have a Green Badge?

A: The Red Badge is for Trainee Driving Instructor which some large driving schools use to enable them to gain experience teaching before they become fully qualified. The Green Badge is for Fully Qualified Driving Instructors.

Q: How do I Apply for a provisional licence?

A: Before you can even get into a car and start learning to drive, you have to get hold of a provisional driving licence. To apply for this, you must complete the application form D1 that's available from either the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) form ordering service', or from your local Post Office. It takes about 4 weeks for your application to be processed and for your licence to be sent to you - so if you want to start learning as soon as you hit 17, make sure you apply early!

Q: How will I pass my Theory Test?

A: The theory test is made up of two parts; a multiple choice section and a Hazard Perception test. The multiple choice bit is delivered using a touch screen computer and mouse, while the hazard perception test records your responses through the use
of a computer mouse button. You'll need to pass both parts to successfully complete your theory test. If you pass one part and fail the other, you'll fail the whole test, and will have to take both parts again.

Q: What is the cost of the Theory test?

A: Theory test fees are £31 effective from 30 March 2009. You can book your Theory test through the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) website or we can arrange it for you.
