The Facts from Drive There Driving School - About Drink Driving

If you drive at twice the legal alcohol limit you are at least 30 times more likely to cause a road crash, than a driver who hasn't been drinking.

Any amount of alcohol affects your ability to drive. There is no foolproof way of drinking and staying under the limit, or of knowing how much an individual person can drink and still drive safely.

Each person's tolerance to alcohol depends on a range of factors:

  • weight

  • gender

  • age

  • metabolism

  • current stress levels
  • whether they have eaten recently

  • amount of alcohol

The problem of hardcore drink-driving continues to be associated with male motorists aged 17-34

  • 3,000 people are killed or injured each year in drink-drive crashes.

  • More than 1 in 5 deaths continue to involve drivers who are over the drink-drive limit.

Morning after motoring

Despite the anti drink-driving crusade of the past, driving after drinking

the night before - so called 'morning after motoring' is becoming a

growing concern.

Young drivers are more likely to drive the next morning knowing that they've been drinking heavily the night before. The problem is linked to stronger alcohol now being available, including 'premium' lagers, wine usually being 11-13% proof and confusion about the amount of alcohol contained in ready-mixed drinks and alcopops

So the only safe option is not to drink alcohol

if you plan to drive, and never

offer an alcoholic drink to someone

else who is intending to drive.
